WFD are now looking for an Regional Communications Officer for Europe and Central Asia.
Location: The role can be based in either Belgrade, Serbia, or Skopje, North Macedonia.
Occasional overseas travel to support programme implementation and/or oversee activities may be required for the position.
Benefits: 4 wellbeing days per calendar year [pro-rata for part-time staff], plus annual leave and public holidays entitlement.
Contract Details: Fixed Term - until 31 March 2025 contract for services

Our communications and external affairs strategy aims to raise awareness of Westminster Foundation for Democracy's impact and value in all the regions in which we work, including Europe and Central Asia (ECA). We want to inspire key stakeholders to support WFD and collaborate with us in our work to strengthen democracy and democratic governance.
Regional Communications Officer (Europe and Central Asia)
This new role is part of WFD’s global communications team, a friendly, caring, and collaborative team currently based in the UK, Kenya, Nigeria, and Nepal. You will be responsible for providing communications support to country offices in the ECA region and will work closely with WFD colleagues there, as well as the regional Business Development Manager.
A creative communicator with excellent relationship-building skills, you will develop and lead the implementation of the regional communications plan as well as design, create, and disseminate compelling content (from written content to videos and illustrations) to help communicate why strengthening democracy matters – and the importance and impact of our work – to key ECA audiences.
You will work across the full spectrum of communications disciplines in this varied and interesting role: website management, external affairs, social media management, internal comms, and strategic comms and campaigns. You will also help the communications and external affairs team to design and deliver overarching WFD campaigns, like our 30th Anniversary and Garden of Democracy campaigns.
This is an exciting opportunity for a comms enthusiast with the right level of experience to work across the ECA region, to expand their expertise within an international team, and to increase their understanding of WFD programmes and political dynamics in ECA.
The Regional Communications Officer for ECA will join two other regional comms officers (covering Asia Pacific and Americas and MENA and Africa respectively) currently part of the communications and external affairs team.
About You
- We are looking for someone with the following core skills and experience.
- At least 3 years professional experience in any or a combination of the following fields: journalism, civil service (communications), public relations, parliamentary or public affairs.
- Educated to degree-level in a relevant discipline (for example: communications, politics, international affairs, or development) or a strong understanding built through experience.
- Understanding of the international development political and policy landscape.
- A grasp of political dynamics in the ECA region and the ability to communicate sensitively and diplomatically.
- Experience working with, or within, government or parliament.
- Exceptional written and spoken English.
- An understanding of communication evaluation.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Experience of managing social media and evaluating performance.
Candidates must have eligibility to work in either Serbia, or North Macedonia.
